Abstract

Two equivalent models of synchronous machine with equal and unequal mutual reactances between the three direct-axis windings are examined. In the representation of the generator, a new method expressing the model parameters in terms of five measurable time constants is provided which does not require the usual simplifying assumptions. Furthermore, a method for computing the five time constants is given for two known tests. Three different techniques are suggested which allow the calculation of different transient phenomena. The validity of the methods developed is examined by comparing its results with those obtained from other methods. Two numerical examples are given in detail in order to demonstrate the discrepancies in values of parameters resulting from new and old methods.
