Using a discrete time-variant state-space model for the induction machine, the authors consider the plant variations as being uncertainties represented by polytopes. In addition, an alternative scheme of vector control is proposed for digital control of the induction machine. This scheme involves treatment of the machine equations in state space and the acquisition of a robust state-feedback gain by an H2 convex optimisation method.

Observer design for discrete nonlinear descriptor systems

A nonlinear observer is considered for a class of discrete nonlinear descriptor systems subject to unknown inputs. This class is partly characterised by globally Lipschitz nonlinearities and a member system may be singular. First, the system is transformed into SVD-form from which a preliminary feedback control function can be designed, if needed, to render the system causal. Then a nonlinear observer is proposed which is based on the solution of a Riccati equation and on the use of a quadratic Lyapunov function. A design algorithm is given and applied to the estimation of the states of a flexible joint robot.

Probabilistic discrete system models for H∞ optimal control design

The modelling and H∞ control of discrete-time systems with uncertain parameters which can be represented probabilistically is considered. The polynomial based model structure is chosen so that high frequency lag terms may be introduced whose parameters have zero expected value. Similarly uncertain zeros may be considered. An H∞ controller can then be obtained which stabilises the nominal plant model and also provides a degree of robustness to uncertain poles and zeros.
