This study is concerned with the problem of state estimation using delayed measurements, especially when the delay is uncertain. In real-world applications, measurements are often randomly delayed, and hence not immediately available to the filter when taken by a sensor. By modelling uncertain delay as a probabilistic density function, the effect of uncertain delayed measurements is accounted for by the proposed estimator, combined with the augmented state Kalman filter. Use of the uncertain delay model resolves the randomness of the delay, and the augmentation is used to handle the delayed measurements. Consequently, the proposed algorithm is able to provide consistent estimates, regardless of the uncertainty of the delay. Monte Carlo simulations using one-dimensional particle were conducted with three kinds of representative uncertainty models, based on Gaussian, gamma and uniform distributions. This study is concerned with the stabilisation problem for a basic wireless networked control system (WNCS) with packet loss in the discrete-time domain. Utilising the relation between packet loss probability and signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) of the wireless channel, the wireless link model is simplified as a Bernoulli process. Moreover, the WNCS can be expressed as a Markov jump linear system. The necessary and sufficient condition of mean-square stability for the WNCS is established for given packet loss probability. The stabilisation condition is developed for the existence of a stabilising state feedback controller and the state-feedback gain can be obtained by using the condition. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the main results. Furthermore, an upper bound on the packet loss probability and a lower bound on the SNR guaranteeing the existence of stabilising controller are estimated by exploiting the stabilisation condition in the example. - Author(s): Z. This study discusses the dissipative control problem for a class of non-linear stochastic systems, which is driven by Brownian motion, Poisson random measure and Markovian process. By developing the dissipation theory for this class of systems, the equivalent conditions are established among the coupled Hamilton–Jacobi inequalities (HJIs), Hamilton–Jacobi equalities, the dissipative inequality and L2-gain property. In this study, the convergence of non-linear extended state observer (ESO) for a class of multi-input multi-output non-linear systems with uncertainty is studied. The unknown part that comes from either the system itself or the external disturbance is considered as an augmented state. The state variable and augmented state are estimated simultaneously through the ESO. It is shown that with the pertinent choice of non-linear functions for observer, the error between the state and observer can be as small as desired when the high-gain tuning parameter is sufficiently small. In this study, a single neural network (SNN)-based adaptive control design method is developed for a class of uncertain non-affine pure-feedback non-linear systems. Different from existing methods, all unknown parts at intermediate steps are passed down, and only an SNN is used to approximate the lumped unknown function of the system at the last step of controller design. By this approach, the designed controller consisting of an actual control law and an adaptive law can be given directly, and the complexity growing problem inherent in conventional methods can be completely eliminated. Stability analysis shows that all the closed-loop system signals are uniformly ultimately bounded, and the steady-state tracking error can be made arbitrarily small by appropriately choosing control parameters. This study is concerned with the fault detection (FD) problem for a class of networked control systems (NCSs) with finite-frequency servo inputs and random packet dropouts. Considering the sensor stuck faults, the NCSs are firstly modelled as multi-models with a stochastic parameter. The notion of finite-frequency stochastic H− index is subsequently introduced to measure the sensitivity of the residuals, and sufficient conditions guaranteeing the stochastic system to be with such performances are derived. Then with the aid of these conditions, a novel FD scheme is developed such that it is valid for the possible packet dropouts and all admissible sensor faults. In addition, new convex conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which can be reduced to some previous results, are presented to cope with this FD problem. This study mainly considers the problem for the robustly exponential stability of uncertain neutral stochastic linear systems with a delay varying in an interval. By constructing an augmented Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, some new delay-dependent exponential stability criteria for such systems are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which involve fewer matrix variables and have less conservatism. This study proposes the use of a time-varying sliding surface for robust transient shaping of linear discrete-time multi-input plants subject to saturating actuators, in the presence of bounded matched uncertainties. A constructive procedure is presented, ultimate boundedness of state trajectories is proved and a result about the choice of tuning parameters for robust transient shaping is given. Specifically for the non-linear system in a network environment, the input quantisation and packet dropouts are considered simultaneously in this study. The quantiser adopted here is a finite-level logarithmic one and the packet dropout process of the channel is modelled as the independent identically distributed case. The state-feedback controller of the non-linear continuous system, which can be globally exponentially stabilised by ‘standard’ state feedback is designed, and the mean stability of the closed-loop system is analysed. In this study, the problem of control algorithm design for a class of nonlinear two-input and two-output systems with non-Gaussian disturbances is investigated, where a general non-linear auto-regressive moving average with exogenous model is used to describe the system. Based on the deduced probability density functions of tracking errors, a new performance index is established using the entropy and joint entropy so as to characterise the uncertainty of the tracking errors of the closed-loop system. This performance also includes the expectations of tracking errors and the constrains of control energy. A recursive optimisation control algorithm is obtained by minimising the performance index. Moreover, the local stability condition of the closed-loop systems is established after some formulations. Finally, the comparative simulation results are presented to show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is superior to that of proportional–integral–derivative controller. - Author(s): M.S. In this study, an improved observer-based stabilising controller has been designed for networked systems involving both random measurement and actuation delays and subject to non-stationary packet dropouts. The developed control algorithm is suitable for networked systems with any type of delays. By the simultaneous presence of binary random delays and making full use of the delay information in the measurement model and controller design, new and less conservative stabilisation conditions for networked control systems are derived. The criterion is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities. The authors investigate the stability in mean-square sense for switched stochastic systems with time-varying delay by using multiple Lyapunov functionals method. In order to characterise the joint effects of switching and time delay on stability, some practical techniques are applied in computing the Lyapunov functional constructed for individual subsystem. The first one among others is to make use of Itô calculus rules to reduce the conservatism produced by noise since it basically plays a negative role for preserving stability. Also, the authors present a necessary number of slack matrices to create convex conditions so as to accommodate the computation to time-varying delay. In the following, the authors show the stability of overall system via confining switching frequency within a certain level. In this study, an H∞ state-feedback controller for continuous-time Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy systems, where the membership functions are assumed to be non-differentiable, is considered. The salient feature over the existing results is that this study gives an idea of applying the well-known matrix elimination lemma as a means to reduce the order of the fuzzy weights from the given condition: by augmenting the fuzzy weights in conformity with the matrix elimination lemma, the order of the fuzzy weights in the original quadratic condition is decreased and a decision variable that is dependent on the fuzzy weights is introduced in a more tractable form. Then, this time-varying decision variable is approximated piecewisely by partitioning the range of the fuzzy weights, and the negativity of the corresponding relaxed condition is checked by utilising the extreme points for each partition so that a switching control scheme based on the partition can be obtained. In this study, a method is presented to compute the optimal sampling time in a network such that consensus is reached with a minimum number of iterations. In particular, the authors analyse a network composed of N first-order agents with communication delays. The communication is done in discrete time, sampling all the signals associated with every agent at the same sampling time, taking into account the existence of a time delay. The authors look for the optimal sampling time such that consensus is reached in a minimum number of iterations, which minimises the communication cost, in terms of energy and bandwidth. The analysis is performed by minimising an objective function that takes into account a measure of the convergence rate to reach a consensus. This objective function mainly depends on the eigenvalues of the sampled transition matrix of the system. The method can be applied to medium/large-scale networks, since it requires computing the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix just once. Finally, a case study is presented based on the torus topology, where the interconnection of 100 agents is analysed, and we obtain the optimal sampling time to reach consensus with and without communication delay.
