The mobile phone industry is developing a split personality, which is having a knock-on effect on the design of handsets. Although the hardware side is getting easier for 2.5 G handsets, the software side demands as much attention to commercial politics as technical detail. Power consumption remains a challenge in the design of 3G mobile phones. Although power-saving design is generally associated with the digital part of a multimedia terminal, careful partitioning between analogue and digital implementation can yield big power savings, particularly the audio and user-interface subsystems. This article describes at-speed IC testing which is critical to product quality. At nanometre geometries, many companies now require the application of at-speed patterns in order to improve defect detection and reduce DPM. Consequently, test application time and test data volume have dramatically increased thus turning test into a very costly portion of the overall product cost. For today's nanometre designs, compression of test time and data volume is essential to solve these problems and keep test cost within reasonable limits. To identify enemy aircraft effectively, radar systems depend on a database of known targets. This article outlines a system which can be used if radar signatures are not available. It considers classification of aircraft using data derived from non-radar sources. The key approach adopted here is the use of a scattering-centre model from which prominent scattering features on each candidate aircraft are derived. These features are then compared with features derived from measured profiles in order to classify the radar target. The results given here support the notion of a model consisting of a small number of scattering centres, but indicate that the variation of backscatter with aspect angle from these scattering centres may be quite complicated. - Author(s): E. This article describes a system using multilevel agents which offer a way of tracking radar objects that fly close to the ground or are otherwise difficult to detect. Our research uses a pre-track system that exploits spatio-temporal Doppler correlations to help reduce ghost targets, as well as reducing false alarms due to noise. Further, it makes use of intelligent agents. The two main processing methods we have used are dynamic programming and Hough transforms. In summary, the system is a simplified multiple hypothesis tracker, tightly coupled to a self-adaptive, context sensitive, spatio-temporal CFAR system. In environments with diverse clutter characteristics, the self-adaptive nature of the agent system self-organises using simple processing and by assuming that there will be too few data measurements to establish the clutter statistics accurately, a robust sub-optimal solution is formed. - Source: Electronics Systems and Software, Volume 3, Issue 1, p. 44 –46
