After briefly tracing the history in Britain of forced-cooled cables, the paper reviews the state of development of separate pipe cooling, integral pipe cooling and internally oil-cooled cables. It also discusses further development possibilities and the likely range of application of the various methods to meet present and foreseen UK rating requirements.
