Light from the heart of darkness [hydropower generation]
The African continent has various resources to create electrical power but chief among them is the ability to generate hydropower from its rivers. However great distances involved, long transmission systems can be erected in order to bring light and power everywhere it is needed and to give regional economies a boots. Most of the region's big rivers already generate electricity and have a potential to generate more power which can be transmitted in bulk anywhere. Due to their geographical positions, the Congo River and its tributaries possess a huge hydropower potential, with about 40% concentrated at the Inga site. The big advantage of the Congo River is that it crosses the equator twice collecting water from rain in different parts of the country. The lives of the people in the African continent will surely improve once this huge hydropower potential is harnessed to generate clean, cheap and renewable power.
