Computer simulation of a digital radio system
Designing and implementing a computer simulation requires skills in digital signal processing and software engineering, areas which will be unfamiliar to many electrical engineers. This paper is an introduction to the computer simulation of radio systems based on a systems approach. Much of the discussion will be relevant to the simulation of any signal processing system. It is illustrated throughout by examples taken from the simulation of a digital microwave communications link which achieved high spectral efficiency by employing partial response techniques and narrow band FM modulation.
