Impulse noise is a potential source of impairment of ADSL and VDSL services. The authors present simple and easy to implement technique to evaluate the effect of the impulse noise on discrete-multitone-based ADSL and VDSL transmission systems. The technique is validated by a comparison between simulated results and measurements taken on real system. The technique is used to determine the optimum parameters of ADSL and VDSL systems that ensure a better protection against impulse noise.
