New versions of hard disk technology are changing the options for storage in the enterprise, and inexpensive disks are moving from the desktop into the high-end enterprise servers. Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) uses a higher speed cable that gives speeds up to 3 Gbit/s and tackles several problems that have been holding the technology back, such as lack of command queuing. SATA can expect to find plenty of uses in the enterprise, bringing low cost storage in to many new areas.
