An ambitious project to track the health of half a million UK citizens over a period of 30 years will rely on equally ambitious automation systems that can last the distance in temperatures of down to -80°C. The UK Biobank project will take blood samples from half a million people and then separate each sample into six components that can be stored separately in phials with 2D barcodes.
