The article examines some of the data from the UK gender pay gap survey showing that one of the UK's biggest and most important industries (engineering) is not really employing that many women (who are half the population) and it pays those women it does employ less than men are paid in that same profession. In April 2018, UK employers with more than 250 staff were required by government to publish data on their gender pay gap. A gender pay gap doesn't imply a man and woman doing the same job but having unequal pay, which is against the law. Instead, firms have to calculate the mean or median difference between men's and women's earnings throughout their organisation.
