A queueing model for the buffer between a web server and the Internet is presented. The generated traffic is modelled as a superposition of sessions started by independent users, where each session corresponds to one file download. This model leads to analytical expressions for the main performance measures (buffer occupancy, delay) of the buffer and allows rapid comparison of various alternatives. An example is presented.
