The session initiation protocol (SIP) will control multimedia sessions within the 3GPP IMS. The sessions have to be highly reliable. A fault-tolerant call control system based on a novel state-sharing design is proposed and evaluated through testbed experiments. The results show that this solution significantly improves the system reliability.
