Experimental results are reported of thermal emission from tantalum surfaces having a two-dimensional periodic array of microcavities. Thermal emission from such surfaces has clear peaks caused by two different resonances of electromagnetic waves. It is found that the physical origin of the resonant peaks changes when the aperture ratio of the surface increases.
