A second-order in time and fourth-order in space alternative direction implicit (ADI) finite difference time domain (FD-TD) method has been developed. The dispersion relation is derived and compared with the ADI-FDTD method. Numerical results demonstrated that the higher-order ADI-FDTD has a better accuracy compared to the ADI-FDTD method.
