A simple and compact design is proposed for a 20 GHz sampling phase detector through the integration of impulse generation with the sampling circuit. The structure is captured by a combined full-wave EM and circuit type simulation, which verifies its basics. The design is successfully implemented in a low-cost commercial microstrip medium.
