The synchronisation of a passively modelocked 1000 nm wavelength external cavity semiconductor laser to a modelocked Ti:sapphire laser under conditions of very low timing jitter is demonstrated. Pulses from the modelocked semiconductor laser are characterised by cross-correlation down to pulse energies of ∼0.01 fJ.
