Impedance spectrum measurement using a tetrapolar surface probe provides a means of characterising biological tissue. However, parasitic capacitance and the presence of conductive fluid on the tissue surface impose an upper limit on both the frequency and impedance of measurements. The magnitude of these constraints has been evaluated by measurement and modelling.
