The conventional Fourier-based complex exponential carriers of a multicarrier system are replaced with orthonormal wavelets in order to reduce the interference. The wavelets are derived from a multistage tree-structured Haar and Daubechies orthonormal quadrature mirror filter (QMF) bank. Compared with the conventional OFDM, it is found that these wavelets reduce the power of ISI and ICI.

Inspec keywords: filtering theory; quadrature mirror filters; multipath channels; interference suppression; intersymbol interference; wavelet transforms; frequency division multiplexing

Other keywords: interference reduction; orthonormal wavelets; ICI reduction; intercarrier interference; multipath wireless channels; Daubechies orthonormal QMF bank; orthogonal FDM; multistage tree-structured Haar QMF bank; ISI reduction; OFDM; wavelet-based multicarrier transmission; quadrature mirror filter bank

Subjects: Communication switching; Modulation and coding methods; Electromagnetic compatibility and interference; Integral transforms in numerical analysis; Filtering methods in signal processing
