Microwave emission in magnetised vircators is investigated using computer simulation. A hollow electron beam is generated in a foilless diode, the anode tube of which is followed by a wider waveguide where a virtual cathode is formed. The simulation shows an essential beam pumping downstream of the virtual cathode, resulting in excitation of transverse electric TE modes.
