An efficient MAC protocol and flexible dynamic channel allocation (DCA) scheme for the UMTS-TDD mode is presented which exploits the characteristics of connectionless and connection-oriented services. The proposed protocol gives fast channel access and high bandwidth efficiency in any traffic scenario asymmetric between uplink and downlink channels, particularly in the presence of internet traffic.
