Multiwaveguide SOA for increased saturation power without noise penalty The authors present a new semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) concept, the multiwaveguide SOA (MWG-SOA), which associates N parallel SOAs and yields a 10log(N) dB saturation power increase without noise penalty, for the same small-signal gain as each single SOA. The MWG-SOA concept is experimentally validated.
