The fabrication and performance of a modelocked distributed Bragg reflector laser is described. The laser has a threshold current of 60 mA and differential efficiency of 0.05 mW/mA when coupled into a singlemode fibre. Modelocked pulses with 7 ps pulsewidth, with a time-bandwidth (ΔtΔν) product of ~0.7 at ~5 GHz, have been obtained.
