An ATM-based in-home networking protocol is proposed, called the cost-effective home ATM network for consumer electronics (CHANCE). Unlike other ATM-based in-home networking technologies, CHANCE can efficiently provide the plug-and-play facility using only the ATM cell header field. CHANCE's addressing scheme using the switch and device identifiers enables inter-device control and communication within the home.
