The one-dimensional frequency domain interpretation of 3 × 3 compass gradient edge masks is extended to complex mask cases, making use of the circularity of the weight matrix. Complex compass Prewitt and Sobel edge masks are represented, in the spatial and frequency domains, by the two types of complex compass Frei-Chen edge mask.
