High-reliability fibre Bragg gratings have been directly fabricated through the UV-transparent coating of a tin-codoped germanosilicate fibre. For high strength fibre gratings, the average breaking strength = 4.92 GPa, stress corrosion susceptibility parameter n = 20, and shape parameter m = 23. The same parameters for low strength fibre gratings were 1.25 GPa, 21 and 9, respectively.
