A coherent detection technique which employs a two-dimensional heterodyne detector array is proposed for the enhanced detection and speckle averaging of laser signals transmitted through highly scattering media. By using an 8×8 InGaAs detector array, this technique is demonstrated to significantly improve the optical images of materials and biological objects.
