The authors propose an efficient path rerouting scheme for handoff calls in wireless asynchronous transfer mode. In contrast to existing schemes, the more general flat-type networks are considered. The scheme first tries to find a rerouted path in a limited time; if this fails, path extension is attempted. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is confirmed using simulations.
