A simple tunable and selective wavelength converter using degenerate fibre four-wave mixing based on pump wavelength and pump polarisation controls is proposed and demonstrated. Both single- and multichannel tunability/selectivity of conversion can be realised. This converter may enable wavelength division multiplexing networks to have improved efficiency and operational flexibility.
