The authors demonstrate a novel method of an all-optical wavelength conversion scheme by using a cavity dumped fibre laser with a nonlinear optical loop mirror. The measured on-off contrast ratio of the wavelength converted signal is much better than that of the input data signals, which may be very useful in practical high speed WDM communication systems.
