A greedy algorithm is proposed to conquer the deconvolution of the spreading function such that an ill-conditioned solution with negative energy can be avoided. This approach also generalises the concept of the perceptual entropy to the perceptual distortion rate function and designs an adaptive bit allocation scheme in an audio coder for delivering optimum performance.
