A novel optical add-drop multiplexer based on an arrayed-waveguide wavelength multiplexer is proposed. The foldback configuration is employed to avoid the bit error rate degradation caused by the light crosstalk common in arrayed-waveguide multiplexers. Penalty free transmission is demonstrated.
