An array of fibre-optic, three-axis magnetic sensors was developed and operated undersea for a period of one year. The array comprises eight fibre sub-microradian interferometers each containing three magnetostrictive transducers for magnetic field detection and two piezoelectric transducers for quadrature control and nonmagnetic data transmission.

Inspec keywords: magnetometers; fibre optic sensors; magnetic sensors; magnetostrictive devices; piezoelectric transducers; oceanographic equipment; light interferometers

Other keywords: three-axis magnetic sensors; undersea performance; eight-element fibre optic magnetometer array; quadrature control; sub-microradian interferometers; magnetic field detection; magnetostrictive transducers; piezoelectric transducers; nonmagnetic data transmission
