A comparison of various polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) measurement methods in a 1600 km EDFA (Er-doped fibre amplifier) system is presented for the first time. The PMD in the 1600 km EDFA system was measured to be 3.6 – 5.8 ps. These values were in good agreement with the PMD value of ~4.3 ps estimated from the active EDFAs and the dispersion shifted fibres.
