Transmission of a 4 × 10 Gbit/s optically time division multiplexed data signal over an urepeatered link comprising 80 km of standard non-dispersion shifted fibre is demonstrated. The 1300 pns/nm dispersion of the link is balanced using a length of dispersion compensating fibre located at the OTDM transmitter, and the signal is demultiplexed to 10 Gbit/s using a semiconductor optical amplifier.
