A long Nd3+ fibre laser is actively stabilised to a selected longitudinal mode. The control signal for the mode-selecting filter is derived by probing the cavity gain at neighbouring modes.

Inspec keywords: phase modulation; optical modulation; neodymium; ring lasers; fibre lasers; laser modes; laser frequency stability

Other keywords: Nd3+ fibre laser; phase modulation; mode-selecting filter; fibre laser; control signal; singlemode operation; active stabilisation; ring laser cavity; longitudinal mode; cavity gain; mode jump elimination

Subjects: Other fibre optical devices and techniques; Solid lasers; Laser resonators and cavities; Fibre lasers and amplifiers; Laser beam modulation, pulsing and switching; mode locking and tuning; Laser resonators and cavities; Fibre optics
