A 1.9 μm Tm-doped fluoride fibre amplifier using a 1.58 μm pump source is presented. A gain of 18 dB was obtained at a pump power of 62 mW. An efficient 1.9 μm Tm-doped fluoride fibre laser with a 1.58 μm pump source is also presented. A slope efficiency of 70% was obtained.
