The effect of finite word length on the moment of the impulse response of a digital filter is investigated. It is shown that the quantisation error in the moment values is almost linear with slope of 3 dB/bit and is well related to the output roundoff noise. An algorithm is also proposed to order the cascade sections of an FIR filter with low output roundoff noise.
