A novel delay-line demodulation method is proposed that can directly convert an AMI-CPFSK signal into a NRZ baseband signal. A pattern-independent 622 Mbit/s CPFSK heterodyne transmission experiment for a fibre span of 121 km is demonstrated by using AMI line coding and the proposed demodulation method.
