A regenerator having simple clock extraction and an automatic phase-controlled retiming circuit is described. A constant phase between the clock and the data is maintained by employing the automatic phase control circuit which is also used as a data transformer from NRZ signal formats to pseudo-RZ signal formats. The experimental result at 565 Mbit/s showed a maximum 12 degrees of phase deviation in the temperature range between -10°C and 60°C.
