Results are presented for the average error probability of shot-noise limited on-off-keying optical communications in the presence of intersymbol interference. An expression for a near-optimum detection threshold is given and the results of evaluating the probability of error for this threshold are shown.

Inspec keywords: optical communication; random noise; information theory; intersymbol interference

Other keywords: average error probability; shot-noise limited optical communications; on-off-keying optical communications; ISI; near-optimum detection threshold; intersymbol interference; probability of error

Subjects: Information theory; Optical communication; Optical communication
