Dispersion penalties for single-mode-fibre transmission using 1.3 and 1.5 μm LEDs have been measured for fibre lengths of up to 22.5 km and at bit rates of 90, 140 and 280 Mbit/s. The experimental results are compared to theoretical values obtained from an intersymbol interference calculation.
