The phase-shift technique has been successfully extended to chromatic dispersion measurements in single-mode optical fibres. Using only two sinusoidally modulated LEDs operating at 1.33 and 1.47 μm, accurate results have been achieved in the spectral region of interest, in good agreement with those obtained with the Nd-Yag laser and Raman fibre technique.
