A dielectric-clad discone has been designed for use in the frequency band 250–1100 MHz, possessing a v.s.w.r. ≤ 2 over most of the frequency range and being about 30% smaller than its equivalent metal unclad version. A radiating efficiency of 45% was obtained, the relatively low figure being due to dielectric loss in the cladding.
