Scattering by snow and ice crystals are possible causes of depolarisation along satellite paths. It is believed that ice crystals aligned by atmospheric electrostatic fields are a prime but not exclusive cause of such depolarisation.

Inspec keywords: ice; satellite links; radiowave propagation; polarisation; snow

Other keywords: atmospheric electrostatic fields; solid hydrometeors; depolarisation; satellite paths; ice crystals; snow

Subjects: Radiowave propagation; Satellite communication systems
