The microbending loss in single-mode W-fibres has been determined by calculating the coupling coefficients between the fundamental mode and the radiation modes. It is shown that the microbending loss is of the same order of magnitude, or even larger than, the microbending loss in comparable single-mode cladded-core fibres.
