A processor using a baseband c.c.d. data store and an i.f. s.a.w. chirp filter is shown to offer a realistic alternative to optical or digital s.l.a.r. processing. Range sorting and pulse averaging can be done within the store while the complex correlation for many range cells can be accomplished using a single s.a.w. filter.

Inspec keywords: radar systems; charge-coupled devices; signal processing; acoustic surface wave devices

Other keywords: synthetic aperture processing; charge coupled devices; pulse averaging; range sorting; SLAR; side looking airborne radar; IF SAW chirp filter; acoustic surface wave devices; CCD; SAW

Subjects: Sonar and acoustic radar; Signal processing and detection; Other field effect devices; Information theory; Acoustic wave devices
