The nonlinear interaction between two bulk elastic waves of different polarisations is used to generate a propagating elastic wave carrying a correlation of the two input waveforms. Measurements show the high efficiency and dynamic range of the device and a variable-delay capability is demonstrated.

Inspec keywords: correlators; acoustic delay lines; acoustic microwave devices

Other keywords: variable delay capability; nonlinear interaction; high dynamic range correlator; bulk elastic waves

Subjects: Information theory; Signal processing and detection; Sonic and ultrasonic transducers and sensors
