The capacity advantages already predicted when using single-channel-per-carrier companded frequency modulation on a satellite link are verified in terms of the subjective performance of such a link. The results of subjective tests carried out on a system show an improvement over a conventional satellite circuit containing 10 000 p W0p of noise for almost all talker levels likely to be encountered in practice.
