Surface acoustic waves have been generated and detected on a biased electrostrictive substrate. A delay line with an insertion loss of 26 dB at 77 K has been constructed on strontium titanate. The temperature and electric-field dependence of the insertion loss are given.

Inspec keywords: substrates; electrostriction; acoustic surface wave devices; ultrasonic delay lines; strontium compounds

Other keywords: substrates; triple transit suppression; ultrasonic delay lines; strontium titanate; electrostrictive effect; surface acoustic waves; insertion loss

Subjects: Piezoelectricity and electrostriction; Acoustic wave devices; Acoustoelectric effects (electronic transport); Mechanical and acoustical properties of solid surfaces and interfaces
